How does a steel casting foundry use resin sand to improve the quality of castings?

Resin sand casting is one of the most commonly used casting processes in modern foundry production. Resin sand casting refers to molding sand or core sand casting made by artificially using resin as a binder, because the strength of resin sand after hardening is relatively high. , So it is generally more suitable for mechanical modeling or complex, thin-walled castings.

How does a steel casting foundry use resin sand to improve the quality of castings?

Compared with traditional sand casting, resin sand will greatly improve the quality of castings. This is the main reason why many steel casting foundries will use resin sand. The improvement of sand casting and die casting quality is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  1. Castings made with resin sand will have improved dimensional accuracy and clear outlines. Whether it is modeling or core making, it can be demolded only after the resin sand has hardened to a certain extent. Although there is still a period of continuous hardening after demolding, the strength of the mold or sand core is much higher than that of the clay sand or oil sand core during demolding. During the demolding process and later, the strength of the mold or sand core is much higher. No deformation is caused during handling, drying and molding. Therefore, both the mold and the sand core can reproduce the size and surface characteristics of the shape more accurately. In addition, the rigidity of the resin sand casting mold will be relatively high, and the steel casting foundry did not find any water migration after pouring the metal liquid, so there is basically no water migration during the entire molding process of pouring and metal solidification. The mold wall moves, so that the fluctuation of the size of the casting produced will be much smaller.
  2. The surface quality of castings cast with resin sand will be improved. The pyrolysis of resin sand at high temperature will form bright carbon on the surface of the sand particles and create a reducing atmosphere on the metal interface of the mold. This is of great benefit to reducing the surface oxidation of the casting and refining the surface roughness of the casting. Under the same conditions of the raw sand strength and strength distribution, the surface roughness of the castings produced by using resin binders will become finer. For the steel casting foundry, the surface quality of the castings and cnc operating is improved, the cleaning time will be shorter, and there is no need to figure out how to solve the surface roughness, which has a very important effect on reducing costs and improving labor.
  3. We all know that the density of iron castings is not very good, so when the resin sand is used to cast iron castings, the density of the iron castings will be improved. However, when the manufacturer uses the clay wet sand mold to make the iron castings, because the cast iron It will expand before shrinking, so the mold will have wall motion, and then the volume shrinkage will not be supplemented during the solidification process, so the casting will appear loose dendrites, and even shrinkage cavities.
